How to Get Vomit Out of Carpet

How to Get Vomit Out of Carpet

When dealing with vomit on your carpet, you want to move quick. If you let it sit too long, the stain will set deeper into the carpet fibres. If it settles in for too long, it will be more difficult to get rid of the stain and the smell. What you’ll need:

  • Garbage bag
  • Gloves
  • Something to scrape the vomit with
  • Carpet cleaning solution
  • Cleaning cloths or towels

Removing Fresh Vomit from your Carpet

  1. Put gloves on. You don’t want to get anything on your hands.
  2. Start by scraping off excess vomit. Use a spatula, spoon, piece of cardboard (or anything) to get as much vomit out of the carpet and into the trash bag. Take that bag right to the trash as it will get some of the smell out of the room while you work.
  3. Apply our Pet Stain & Odour Remover to stained area and allow to sit for 30 minutes.
  4. Blot the area dry using your towels. Each time a towel gets saturated, replace it.

Removing Old Vomit Stains from your Carpet

If you aren’t able to get to the puke mess right away, you can still get the stains out following a similar process.

  1. Put gloves on.
  2. Use a wet cloth or towel to loosen up the dried mess. This will make it easier to remove the large chunks in step 3.
  3. Start by scraping off excess vomit. Use a spatula, spoon, piece of cardboard (or anything) to get as much vomit out of the carpet and into the trash bag. Take that bag right to the trash.
  4. Apply our Pet Stain & Odour Remover to stained area and allow to sit for 30 minutes.
  5. Blot the area dry using your towels. Each time a towel gets saturated, replace it.
  6. Repeat if necessary.
